Conservation Voters is partnering with the 2004 Latina
Initiative Project.

The
Latina Initiative is a non-partisan voter
registration and mobilization campaign aim at Latinas in Denver
and Adams Counties. As proponents for Latina civic engagement,
the Latina Initiative is targeting 28,233 unregistered and
29,300 registered, low voting, Latinas in Denver and Adams
Counties in an effort to increase the number of Latina voters
involved in the November election. The Latina Initiative also
hopes to encourage civic connection, empowerment and an increased
awareness of the impact issues such as education, health care
and the economy have on Latinas.

Dusti Gurule, Director
Dusti, a Denver native, spent most of her childhood as a student
at Escuela Tlatelolco, a school founded by the Crusade for
Justice, the Denver Chicano social justice organization of
the 1960-70s. She went on to receive her Bachelor Degree in
Chicano Studies at Metropolitan State College of Denver and
recently received a Master of Nonprofit Management from Regis
University.
Dusti is dedicated to serving the Latino community on issues
that affect social change. She is an active participant in
organizing and policy reform on a variety of issues, including
Latina empowerment, civic engagement and reproductive rights.
She served on the board of the La Raza Youth Leadership Conference,
Inc. for eight years, and is currently a board member of the
Women’s Lobby of Colorado.
